Agartala Information Guide
Agartala is the capital of Tripura. It is the second-largest city in entire North-East India (after Guwahati). This city has been home to various rulers before it merged with India in 1949. The ChaturdashDebta Temple is dedicated to 14 Goddesses. If you are in Agartala in July, do visit this temple as the Kharchi festival is held here. Gedu Mia's Mosque is a stunning masjid. It is built entirely from white marble with exquisitely carved minarets, towers and doors.
Sightseeing
Apart from its religious places, Agartala also has a few attractions to boast about. Let's start with the Ujjayanta Palace. This gorgeous palace covers an area of 1km with its massive structure and Mughal-style gardens. The magnificent carvings and domes along with floodlights and splendid fountains make for a lovely sight. The Heritage Park showcases the rich cultural heritage of Tripura. This park is divided into 3 areas i.e. a mini Tripura, a natural forest and a section with medicinal plants, herbs and shrubs. The third iconic attraction in Agartala is the Sukanta Academy. This is a centre for science, culture and art. It is also home to a small planetarium and a children's park. Apart from these, there are many minor attractions like the royal mausoleums near the banks of the Howrah River, the Agartala town hall and the Dhaleshwar post office, among others.

Agartala is a shoppers' paradise. Inspite of its small size, it is home to numerous bazaars. Let's start with the Gol Bazar. Also known as Maharajganj bazar, this market is the largest in Tripura. Here, you will find all kinds of items including handicrafts. If you are looking for the best deals on electronics, cloth or other accessories, the Battala market is where you should be. At the Ujjayanta Market, book lovers will be showered with the choicest of books.
