The exempt VAT is maintained on tourist services originating in packages sold by the operating agencies and hotels registered in the National Tourism Registry (RNT) to be used in the national territory by residents abroad, who enter it for the purposes of culture or other events, or medical treatment, by virtue of the provisions of article 481 of the Tax Statute, modified by article 55 of Law 1607 of 2012. Keep in mind that the Colombian national who has dual nationality in the national territory, will be subject to the political constitution and laws of the republic. Consequently, their entry and permanence in the territory, as well as their departure, must always be done as Colombians, and they must identify themselves as such in all their civil and political acts.

For stays on or after January 1, 2023, residents of Colombia and non-residents staying 60 consecutive days or more will be charged a 19% national sales tax by the property at the time of stay. Travelers on a tourist visa will not be required to pay this tax. The tax may be charged where a room is shared by a taxable and a non-taxable guest.
