Mission Accomplished—-Memories Made

We spent this past Friday and Saturday night at this hotel. I chose it based on the good reviews, and the fact that it has an indoor pool. We wanted to give our son and daughter-in-law a break from their 2-1/2 year old son for Valentine’s Day/weekend; and while they live in Austin, we live N of Houston. Our grandson loves playing in the swimming pool with his “PaPa,” and considering it’s February, I looked for Hilton hotels in/around Austin with good reviews regarding their indoor swimming pools.
I had already read that parking was free and plentiful, so that was another factor. There are a few designated parking spaces near the entrance for Diamond status guests. Also, as Hilton Diamond status members, we read that this hotel would give us a daily $10 per person (up to two people per room) food credit. The restaurant does not offer complimentary breakfast for guests, but with the food credit, and opting for the buffet (versus a la carte) breakfast, with tax and tip added, our out-of-pocket cost was $15/day for the two of us—-which is reasonable. The scrambled eggs were actually REAL and creamy. There was ample bacon, sausage, fried potato wedges, fruit, yogurt, bread, bagels, pastries, juice, coffee, and cereal included in the breakfast buffet (see menu attached in photos).
The deluxe room had a separate living room, which allowed space for our grandson to play with his toys. It was clean and comfortable. There was a Keurig coffee maker, microwave and small fridge. One minor suggestion for the a/c/heat vent in our room number 523 is to please clean it. When laying in the bed and looking straight ahead, it was clear the vent had not been cleaned in a while, and no one wants to wonder what dirt is in the ductwork behind the vent.
The room had a wall thermostat, black-out curtains, crisp and clean white sheets, and a very comfortable bed. Both the bedroom and the living room had its own television. There was an ice maker on our floor near the elevator. There were two elevators with very little wait time.
The indoor swimming pool served its purpose, BUT the water temperature could have been warmer. The first day, the temp was 85. But the second day, it was 83. I sent a text to hotel management asking for the pool heater to be turned up a few degrees. Our grandson was shivering, and his lips were starting to turn blue while in the pool. A nice man came to check on it, and while he did bump the heat up a bit, there was not sufficient time for that much water to heat up during the two hours our grandson was in the pool. Also, air conditioning was on inside the pool room, so that contributed to a not-so-comfortable (warm) indoor pool experience.
The man who came to help when I asked that the heat be adjusted told me he had almost drained the pool the night before, but decided to wait one more day. It’s a good thing it was not drained, and our grandson was able to swim both days. If I heard correctly, the indoor pool will be drained and there will be maintenance/upgrades done. This should be verified directly with management of this hotel if you want to be guaranteed that the indoor pool is operational during your upcoming stay. I will add that the bottom of the pool shows a fair amount of discoloration/wear, so it does need a facelift, in my opinion. I appreciated that there were decent-sized towels in the pool room for use when getting out—-as the room was COLD.
Our grandson was happy, so we were happy. Memories made. Mission accomplished.
Thank you staff at Hilton Garden Inn Austin NW/Arboretum.

The bathroom shower tub was clogged and the water was slow to drain. The shower didn’t have shampoo.

It was good. We just wish the beds were a little more comfortable and that there was a vent in the restroom because for when we showered.
